Early Warning System for Forest Fire Detection
The overall goal of this project is to develop Forest Fire Monitoring System which is cost-effective, locally indigenized, scalable and feasible for application in Pakistani context. Based on this premise, instead of the high-end and costly thermal camera, NCRA-Agricultural Robotics Lab (NARL) at LUMS is proposing to use standard RGB cameras with night vision capabilities. Pan, tilt and zoom cameras will be utilized to increase the coverage area. Furthermore, a network of IoT sensors will also be designed and deployed to measure local attributes such as temperature and CO2.
Project consists of the following modules:
The sensing solution will have two components:
- Camera Based Sensing
- IoT Air Quality Sensors for CO2 and temperature sensing
In addition, we also plan to enable effective forest fire risk management using
- IoT Automatic Weather Stations
- GIS mapping for fire hazard risk and management
Lastly, NARL aims to do the following value addition in enhancing capacity of forest rangers by providing them with effective off-grid communication and navigation:
- V. IoT off-grid communication system
